Resume Tips

A resume presents a first impression of an applicant. For this reason it is important to allocate an appropriate amount of time in creating your resume. A resume should be concise, accurate and up to date. A resume should include: applicant’s name, address, contact phone numbers, a brief statement of goals and objectives, education & training, employment history, and references.

  • A resume should be well organized and easy to read
  • It should be clear and concise. Give a quick summary of your education and work experience but avoid being too lengthy.
  • Use point form and action verbs as descriptors.
  • Choose a format and style that is professional.
  • Use a simple typeface and avoid excessive use of unusual fonts, italics etc.
  • A resume should be geared to the position of interest
  • List education and work experience in reverse chronological order (in order of the most recent).
  • Check and double check for spelling and grammatical errors
  • Emphasize awards and achievements.
