"What does working at Future Electronics mean to me? I started working here about 4 years ago and was brought into a team of enthusiastic programmers. Before working here I worked at home and only dealt with a few co-workers and no other programmers. It is nice to work with knowledgeable people that know the technologies and the business. When I was hired, I did not really know the business or the programming language that most of the programs were written in. I was given the time and many suggestions of how to complete my projects in hand. I was also shown different ways of looking at my code to ensure that the programs that we are creating follow the specs, are error free, do not break, improve what was was there and most importantly 'please the user'. In the end, it is the user that we are pleasing. I have been told stories that quoting parts was all done on paper as recently as 10-15 years ago and now we have a system that allows a user to look up parts from various inventories to see if we have it in stock or have similar parts to give the customer the best price. It is nice to walk around the sales/marketing floors and see the programs that I helped build being used. Future is lucky to have what I feel are the right people here in IT, from the managers that filter all the request, to business analysts that meet with the users and get the specs and feedback. Future has something like 5,000 people and IT has touched them in some way - whether it is the programs we write or the computers they use. It is nice to know that what we have produced over the years and what we are still producing has made their jobs easier as the business changes. The community here is also great, people we meet in the cafeteria or gym are so friendly."
