The AP33772S from Diodes Incorporated is a highly integrated USB Type-C® PD3.1 sink controller designed to support Extended Power Range (EPR) / Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) up to 28V and Standard Power Range (SPR) / Programmable Power Supply (PPS) up to 21V. This versatile device is ideal for managing DC power requests in Type-C Connector-equipped Devices (TCDs) featuring an embedded host MCU and I2C interface.
With an I2C-controlled setup, the AP33772S enables the host MCU to establish the desired power profile—including programmable voltage and current settings—while implementing safety thresholds such as overtemperature protection (OTP) and overcurrent protection (OCP). The device also streamlines USB Power Delivery (PD) negotiation, ensuring efficient communication through its I2C interface and interrupt mechanism.
Engineered on a high-voltage process, the AP33772S provides short protection for CC1/CC2 pins up to 34V, safeguarding against potential electrical faults. Additionally, its smart firmware delivers comprehensive safety protections, including overvoltage (OVP), undervoltage (UVP), overcurrent (OCP), overtemperature (OTP), and moisture detection for Type-C connectors. External thermal de-rating and overtemperature protection are also supported via an NTC resistor.
To further enhance usability, the AP33772S includes an LED indicator to display PD power negotiation results and a FLIP pin to detect cable plug orientation.
