Dual-band Wi-Fi 6/Bluetooth radio modules combine high data rates and low power

The new PAN9019 and PAN9019A modules from Panasonic provide ready-made hardware for wireless local area networking when operating alongside an external host processor. The Wi-Fi® 6 radio supports data rates up to 600Mbits/s.

The PAN9019/PAN9019A dual-band modules from Panasonic offer the latest high-speed Wi-Fi 6 local area networking capability alongside a Bluetooth® 5.2 radio. The modules are ideal for applications that require high-speed data transfers and low energy consumption.

Operating at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, the PAN9019/PAN9019A modules implement the 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax Wi-Fi standards, as well as the Bluetooth basic and enhanced data rate modes and Bluetooth Low Energy networking. The PAN9019A additionally offers 802.15.4 radio capability.

The PAN9019 is based on the NXP Semiconductors IW611 wireless chipset, and the PAN9019A is based on the IW612. The modules provide a ready-made implementation of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hardware for embedded devices: they include a power management circuit, a powerful dual-core CPU for system management, and comprehensive security features, helping OEMs to streamline development and accelerate time-to-market. They are intended to work in tandem with a powerful host processor which can run low-level Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers, as well as host high-level Wi-Fi application software and the Bluetooth protocol stack.

In the Wi-Fi 6 radio, use of the latest technologies, such as a multi-user multiple-in multiple-out antenna and orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) physical layer technology, increase operating efficiency in large networks. The 1024-QAM quadrature amplitude modulation scheme provides for high data-transfer rates.

Transmit power calibration data and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth system parameters are stored in one-time-programmable memory during production at Panasonic. This means that the modules reduce OEMs’ design, test, and calibration effort, resulting in a shorter time-to-market than for manufacturers using discrete solutions.

Engineers can evaluate the modules with Panasonic evaluation boards:
