Renesas has extended its RZ/G2 family of general-purpose 64-bit microprocessors with entry-level products which offer improved processing capability for edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI).
The RZ/G2L and RZ/G2LC MPUs are based on the Arm® Cortex®-A55 processor core, which provides around 20% better processing performance than the earlier Cortex-A53 core, and executes processing routines for AI applications some three times faster. The MPUs also feature the Cortex-M33 core, which enables real-time processing for tasks such as sensor data collection without an external microcontroller.
The RZ/G2L and RZ/G2LC MPUs include a multitude of functions to support sophisticated human-machine interface (HMI) functions, graphical user interface (GUI) rendering, and AI image processing. Among them are camera input interfaces, a 3D graphics engine, and a video codec.
The RZ/G2L Group products feature error checking and correction protection for both on-chip memory and external DDR memory. In addition, Renesas supplies a Verified Linux Package (VLP) featuring a Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP) industrial-grade Linux® distribution with guaranteed support and security maintenance for more than 10 years.
The RZ/G2L and RZ/G2LC MPUs are backed by an optimized power-management IC (PMIC), the Renesas RAA215300, which simplifies power-supply design.
The RZ/G2LC MPUs are supplied in a 13 mm x 13 mm BGA package. The RZ/G2L products are available in 15 mm x 15 mm and 21 mm x 21 mm BGA packages.
