FTM / Embedded Solutions / Azoteq — IQS397 Inductive Capacitive Sensing Device
The IQS397 is a sensing chip which integrates a haptics driver to drive linear resonant actuator motors (LRA) in one package. The IQS397 is part of the ProxFusion® family and supports two modes: self-capacitive sensing and resonated inductive sensing.
For basic applications such as doorbells or keypads, the IQS397 features a standalone mode with strap options that can allow for sensitivity and report rate adjustment. A linear actuation can also be sensed, such as a trigger on a game controller or analog sensing of mouse buttons.
The IQS397 can also be operated via an I2C interface with a real-time closed-loop autoresonance algorithm to monitor and track the resonant frequency of an attached LRA motor. A haptic response can be configured to occur either via a sensor event or an I2C command.
The sensing chip features an internal H-bridge which reduces the need for an external component, and includes protection features such as automatically disabling the bridge if certain errors occur.
Housed in a QFN20 package measuring 3mm x 3mm x 0.5mm, the IQS397 is compact and automatically manages power modes. A special variant is offered for mouse applications, with licensing of immersion IP.
