Empower secure, reliable automotive connectivity and seamless user experiences
STMicroelectronics has recently expanded its automotive NFC portfolio with the introduction of the ST25R500 and ST25R501 readers. Engineered to meet the demanding requirements of the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) and the Wireless Power Consortium, these new devices support digital key functions, engine start, and center-console applications such as Qi wireless charging with NFC card protection.
Offering exceptional receiver sensitivity and enhanced noise suppression, these readers maintain robust performance even in harsh environments, simplifying electromagnetic immunity and easing certification. Dynamic power output and active waveshaping automatically adjust transmitted power to compensate for different antenna designs and distances, ensuring compliance with NFC Forum standards and CCC Digital Key requirements.
Both devices are backed by rich software libraries and automotive-ready middleware, streamlining development and integration. The ST25R501’s compact 4mm x 4mm package allows designers to reduce PCB space by 36%, making it ideal for tight spaces like door handles and B-pillars, while the ST25R500 offers higher continuous output power, suited for applications such as keyfob charging.
Combining high peak output power, industry-leading sensitivity, and advanced diagnostics, these readers provide up to 70% greater interaction range compared to other solutions on the market. Fully AEC-Q100 qualified and NFC Forum CR13 compliant, they meet the stringent standards required by car and smartphone manufacturers worldwide.
