What is a MosFet / IGBT Driver?
An IGBT driver is a semiconductor chip which is used as a switch or rectifier in powered electric circuits. Switches are used in order to break or divert a circuit. Rectifiers are used to convert alternating current to direct current voltage. IGBT drives use three terminals that join electrical circuits together. MOSFETs have specialized drivers in order to help minimize on and off times. The reason they are used is because the advantage of very low ON resistance is lost if the MOSFET takes a long time going in and out of conduction. This will cause the device to heat up and even fail, although the circuit voltage and current may be within the MOSFET specs.
