What is an RF Passive component?

A passive RF component does not require energy to operate, except for the available AC circuit it is connected to. A passive RF module is incapable of power gain and is not a source of energy. Passive RF parts or components include baluns, couplers, frequency discriminators, capacitors and transformers. Generally, passive components can not increase the power of a signal or amplify it. They can however increase current or voltage by a resonant circuit which stores electrical energy from resonant frequencies or by a transformer acting like an electrical isolator.
