What is a D-Sub Connector?

A D-sub connector, or D-subminiature connector, is an electrical connector with a D-shaped shell that is mainly used in video connections in the computing field. An example would be a connection between a monitor and a PC. D-sub connectors use several pins for the electrical connection and are usually screwed into a port.

Types of D-Sub Connectors

There are many different kinds of D-sub connectors and at Future Electronics we stock many of the most common types categorized by Style/Orientation, Number of Positions, Termination, Packaging type and Material. The parametric filters on our website can help refine your search results depending on the required specifications.

The most common D-sub connectors have 9, 15 or 25 positions. We also carry D-sub connectors with as many as 200 positions. The material can be Copper Alloy, Front Metal, Full Metal or Plastic.

Applications for D-Sub Connectors:

The most common uses for a D-sub connector are as a video connector and in RS-232 serial communications. There have been several other uses for D-sub connectors over the years including in printer cables, computer game controllers, external floppy disk drives, network ports and multi-channel audio recording systems.

Choosing the Right D-Sub Connector:

When you are looking for the right D-sub connectors, with the FutureElectronics.com parametric search, you can filter the results by various attributes: by Number of Positions (1, 9, 15, 25,...), Material (Copper Alloy, Full Metal, Front Metal, Plastic) and Termination to name a few. You will be able to find the right D-sub connector from several manufacturers that can be used as Amp D-sub connectors, high density D-sub connectors, micro D-sub connector, VGA D-sub connector, and several connectors with many different pin sizes (9, 15, 25, 37, 44, 78, …).

D-Sub Connectors in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities

If the quantity of D-sub connectors required is less than a full reel, we offer customers many of our products in tube, tray or individual quantities that will avoid unneeded surplus.

In addition, Future Electronics offers clients a unique bonded inventory program that is designed to eliminate potential problems that may arise from an unpredictable supply of products containing raw metals and products with erratic or long lead times.
