onsemi’s FOD8802 dual-channel optocoupler, the latest addition to its OptoHiT™ series, offers reliable and consistent performance at ambient temperatures of up to 125°C. The FOD8802 is also rated for operation over a junction-temperature range of -50°C to 150°C.
Intended for use in DC-DC converter circuits requiring ground-loop and signal-to-noise isolation, the FOD8802A and the new single-channel FODM8801C use proprietary onsemi process technology to operate at high temperatures. Both devices maintain a consistent current transfer ratio at very low input currents over the entire operating-temperature range.
The minimum input-output isolation voltage is 2,500V ACrms. Clearance and creepage are at least 4mm.
The FOD8802 consists of two Aluminum Gallium Arsenide (AlGaAs) infrared LEDs optically coupled to two phototransistors in a small, 8-pin SOIC package. The AlGaAs LEDs suffer substantially less decline in light output over time than the standard gallium arsenide LEDs used in commodity optocoupler products. This means that the FOD8802 and FODM8801 optocouplers offer longer operating lifetime, and a lower guard-band requirement to compensate for temperature drift.
