650 V/50 A power module implements complete three-phase inverter

STMicroelectronics has launched the STGIK50CH65T, an intelligent power module (IPM) which implements a complete three-phase inverter bridge based on 50 A, 650 V-rated IGBTs.

 

The STGIK50CH65T belongs to a new family of compact, dual-in-line IPMs which offer high power capability and high efficiency. The new IPMs extend the existing small low-loss intelligent molded module (SLLIMM) product portfolio. They enable OEMs to provide the higher power output required by applications such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, general-purpose inverters, and servo motors.

 

The new high-power SLLIMM IPMs give improved performance in various parameters, including power dissipation, thermal behavior, EMI and reliability. This has been achieved through the use of new trench-gate field-stop IGBT and fast-recovery diode technologies, new gate drivers, and an improved direct bonded copper substrate in a compact, transfer-molded package.

 

The STGIK50CH65T module is easy to drive with a standard microcontroller thanks to its 3.3 V/5 V TTL/CMOS inputs with hysteresis.

 

The module also includes a 100 kΩ NTC for temperature monitoring, and a set of protection functions including:

  • Short-circuit protection
  • Shut-down input/fault output
  • Under-voltage lockout of gate drivers
  • Comparator for fault protection

 

The module is housed in a 30-lead SDIPHP package which has a 52.5 mm x 31.0 mm footprint.
