The PQU650 series of ac-dc power converters from Murata can provide a continuous 650 W output, and an 800 W peak power boost at start-up for 30 seconds. The power boost function allows the quick initialization of the loads generated by motor drives.
The converter, which operates from a universal mains input, features a U-channel open-frame construction. The device can supply up to 450 W when cooled by natural airflow in ambient temperatures up to 50°C with no derating. It can supply the full rated power output of 650 W when cooled by a fan. The PQU650 can provide an auxiliary output of 0.5 A at 5 V, as well as supplying a fan with 0.6 A at 12 V.
Efficiency is up to 95% at half of full load, and 93% at just 20% load.
The PQU650 is ideal for space-constrained industrial and medical applications, for applications in which the absence of a fan supports silent operation, and for transient-load applications which need high power for short durations.
The PQU650 is certified to the EN 60960 and IEC 60601 3rd edition medical standards. The converters have an isolation capability of 4 kV ac primary-to-secondary, and 1.5 kV ac secondary-to-chassis.
The converter has an industry-standard 4” x 6” footprint, and is just 42.7 mm high, making it a compact option for high-power applications.
