STMicroelectronics’ ST25DV-PWM series, part of its ST25 family of dynamic NFC/RFID tags, provides PWM outputs suitable for use in configuring a wide range of industrial equipment and other applications.
The use of NFC technology enables convenient wireless programming using a smartphone, tablet or portable NFC reader, without having to power up the host device. It is particularly useful for personalizing or programming the output voltage or power level of any electronics product during the final stages of the production flow, even when products are already boxed and ready for shipment.
It is also possible to change system settings without any service interruption while the host is running – a particularly useful feature for maintenance operations in the field.
The two ST25DV-PWM parts are NFC Forum Type 5 certified dynamic tags which conform to the ISO 15693 standard’s specifications. The ST25DV02K-W1 provides a single PWM output, and the ST25DV02K-W2 produces dual PWM outputs, with no need for an external oscillator.
The frequency of the PWM outputs ranges from 488Hz to 31.25kHz. Pulse-width resolution of 62.5ns gives from 15-bit resolution at 488Hz to 9-bit resolution at 31.25kHz.
The ST25DV-PWM dynamic tags feature a 13.56MHz radio interface compatible with NFC phones and readers. Compliant with the ISO 15693 standard, the tag can be programmed at a distance of up to 1m with an appropriate reader and antenna. The PWM output can be programmed independently and securely, enabling the tags to be used in a wide range of applications.
The IC provides live data about the parameters of the PWM output via its contactless interface.

The ST25DV-PWM-eSET is a ready-to-use evaluation board featuring an ST25DV02K-W2 NFC/RFID tag IC, and including a 22mm x 38mm single-layer inductive antenna etched on the PCB, as well as two LEDs showing the duty cycle of the PWM outputs.
