Wireless SoC integrates Bluetooth radio, GPU and voice detector

Renesas DA1470x provides space-saving option for wearable and smart connected devices

The Renesas DA1470x is a family of multi-core wireless microcontroller systems-on-chip (SoCs) which supports Bluetooth® Low Energy connectivity, and integrates a 2D graphics processing unit (GPU), display controller and voice activity detector (VAD) for wake word and command word detection.

A comprehensively upgraded version of the DA1469x family, the DA1470x devices offer up to 66% more processing power, an improved sensor node controller and expanded memory capacity.

The combination of functions in the DA1470x enables OEMs to:

  • Perform advanced sensor and graphical processing
  • Realize cost-effective, reliable, and compact designs
  • Implement always-on audio processing with ultra low-power consumption

The SoC is based on an Arm® Cortex®-M33F main application core, and a Cortex-M0+ core operating as the sensor node controller. The sensor node can perform data acquisition with the rest of the system in shut-down mode, helping to extend battery run-time between charges. The 2D GPU and display controller support DPI, JDI parallel, DBI and single/dual/quad serial peripheral interfaces.

An integrated battery charger works alongside a system power management unit (PMU) with an additional boost dc-dc converter. The PMU enables the device to run on primary or secondary batteries, as well as provide power to external devices through the integrated dc-dc converter and LDOs.

The DA1470x’s configurable media access controller supports the Bluetooth v5.2 specifications for Low Energy operation, as well as proprietary 2.4 GHz radio protocols. A link budget of 103 dB optimizes battery life, system cost and connectivity over the air.

The security of smart connected devices is protected by state-of-the-art cryptographic accelerators, secure boot, and key storage and handling.
