FTM / Intelligent Lighting / Diodes Incorporated — AL5822 LED Current Ripple Suppressor
The AL5822 LED current ripple suppressor from Diodes Incorporated provides high ripple suppression across a wide range of LED currents, while maintaining a high power factor. This ensures that commercial and industrial lighting remains free of visible flicker at all dimming levels.
The AL5822 suppresses more than 97% of current ripple at low frequencies between 100 Hz and 120 Hz while still achieving a power factor greater than 0.9.
The device can be used in various types of pre-stage circuits and with a number of drivers. When combined with single-stage constant-current high power-factor LED drivers such as the Diodes AL1665, AL1666, or AL1666A, the AL5822 ensures there is no visible flicker or strobing across the entire dimming range, even when triac or PWM dimming techniques are used.
Monitoring the current flowing through the LEDs, the AL5822 compensates for ripple by adjusting the drive voltage to the external MOSFET. This control loop ensures the MOSFET delivers a constant current, and automatically adjusts the LED string’s cathode voltage to optimize system efficiency.
The integrated features of the AL5822 remove the need for additional magnetic components in the circuit to reduce ripple. This minimizes component count and bill-of-materials cost.
The AL5822 is supplied in an SOT26 package. It includes LED short-circuit, over-temperature, and over-current protection.
