FTM / Intelligent Lighting / Microchip — PDS-408G PoE Switch
The PDS-408G from Microchip is a fanless Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch for mounting in the ceiling or communications room. It offers a cost-effective solution for supplying power and control signals to an array of luminaires, and to other digital applications mounted in the ceiling.
The 8-port PDS-408G layer 2 switch enables lighting fixtures and other Ethernet terminals to efficiently receive power and data over standard Ethernet cables. Based on the latest Microchip Power Source Equipment Integrated Component (PSE IC) technology, the switch supports full-power mode by simultaneously providing 60 W to all eight ports concurrently, or up to 90 W to any single port.
Use of this digital ceiling switch enables IT managers to monitor and control the power usage of individual luminaires, and to maximize energy savings. Vendor-agnostic, the device is interoperable with any IEEE 802.3bt, 802.3at and 802.3af-compliant PoE lighting fixture for digital ceiling installations.
The PDS-408G supports the trend in commercial premises to implement smart lighting systems which enable building operators to improve energy efficiency and lower operational costs. Ethernet network-powered luminaires take advantage of existing LAN infrastructure, providing remote management capabilities, and offering scope to reduce installation and operating costs.
The adoption of PoE for smart lighting paves the way for the wider integration of Ethernet-powered devices into intelligent building control systems. Devices which can also be connected to a PoE network via the PDS-408G include:
