Flexible 12-channel automotive LED driver simplifies design of rear combination lamps

The STMicroelectronics ALED1262ZT 12-channel LED driver for advanced automotive rear combination lamps and interior lighting provides features which support complex and innovative visual effects.

 

Independent 7-bit PWM dimming on all channels allows flexible control of tail, stop, and indicator lights with dynamic effects. Each channel supplies a constant output current at a voltage of 19 V, enabling the control of strings of multiple LEDs.

 

Current adjustment in a range from 6 mA to 60 mA provides for a wide dimming range as well as high maximum brightness. The ALED1262ZT driver responds to I2C commands from a host microcontroller. It also has two pre-programmed configurations which allow for stand-alone operation, giving design flexibility.

 

Diagnostic and protection features include detection of open LEDs, and an over-temperature warning with thermal shut-down. The input-voltage range of 5.5 V to 38 V means that the ALED1262ZT can be directly connected to the vehicle battery.

 

In addition, the ALED1262ZT is designed for low-noise operation, with slow turn-on/-off time on each channel, and spread-spectrum clock operation to support co-existence with other in-vehicle circuits.
