FTM / Intelligent Sensing and Lighting / STMicroelectronics — ILPS22QS Absolute Pressure Sensor
The low-power ILPS22QS from STMicroelectronics is a compact, piezoresistive absolute pressure sensor which functions as a barometer with a digital output.
The ILPS22QS has two modes of operation. In Mode 1, the full-scale range is 260 hPa to 1,260 hPa, offering accuracy of ±0.5 hPa at between -20°C and 65°C. In Mode 2, the full-scale range is 260 hPa to 4,060 hPa: measurements are accurate to ±0.23% of input pressure between 1,260 hPa and 2,060 hPa and from -40°C to 105°C, and to ±0.37% between 3,060 hPa and 4,060 hPa over the same temperature range. The maximum output data rate is 200 Hz.
The ILPS22QS is a new and improved version of an earlier ST pressure sensor. Producing less pressure noise than its predecessor, the new device also offers lower power consumption: operating current is just 1.8 µA. Temperature drift is also low at 0.45 Pa/°C.
The device includes an embedded analog hub, which provides the capability to implement new pressure-sensing applications.
The ILPS22QS consists of a sensing element and an IC interface which communicates over an I2C, MIPI I3CSM or serial peripheral interface from the sensing element to the application. It also supports a 1.08 V digital interface. The pressure sensing element consists of a suspended membrane which is well isolated from external mechanical and thermal stresses.
The sensor is supplied in an LGA package which is micro-holed to allow external pressure to reach the sensing element. It is included in ST’s longevity program with a 10-year lifetime commitment.
