The MP2722 from Monolithic Power Systems is a highly integrated 5 A-rated switch-mode battery management device for single-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries.
The charger features a narrow voltage dc (NVDC) power-management structure: this provides a low-impedance power path which optimizes charging efficiency, reduces battery charging time, and extends battery life during discharging.
The MP2722 complies with the specifications of the USB Type-C® v1.3 standard, which provides for dual-role power (DRP) operation. It also supports the Try.SNK and Try.SRC modes. The MP2722 algorithm for detecting the input source type can detect adapters which conform to the USB battery charging specification v1.2, and non-standard adapters.
The application can maintain complete control of the MP2722 operation via its I2C interface: this includes configuration of charging parameters, and status/interrupt monitoring. The MP2722 supports a fully customizable JEITA profile with configurable temperature windows and actions.
