FTM / Motion/Motor Control / Vishay — VOT8024A and VOT8121A Optocouplers
The VOT8024A and VOT8121A series of optocouplers from Vishay features a high off‑state voltage of 800 V and a dV/dt rating of 1,000 V/μs. These robust devices offer a high level of noise isolation, making them ideal for use in home appliances and industrial equipment.
The VOT8024A and VOT8121A, which provide a phototriac output, are housed in space-saving DIP-4 and SMD-4 packages.
These optocouplers isolate low-voltage logic from mains power lines at 120 V or 240 V ac, or power distribution lines at 380 V ac. The devices may be used to control resistive, inductive, or capacitive loads, including motors, solenoids, high-current thyristors, or triacs and relays.
The VOT8024A and VOT8121A contain a GaAs infrared LED. In the VOT8024A series, this is optically coupled to a zero-crossing triac, reducing EMI without the need for external snubber networks. In the VOT8121A, the LED is coupled to a random-phase triac to enable phase-independent switching.
The high off-state voltages of both the VOT8024A and VOT8121A series enhance safety margins in one-phase applications, while still maintaining enough voltage headroom for three-phase applications. For additional safety, the optocouplers offer a withstanding isolation voltage of 5,300 Vrms. Low trigger currents of 5 mA for the VOT8024A series and 10 mA for the VOT8121A provide an easy interface with digital logic.
