High performance control for efficient resonant power supplies
The onsemi NCP13994 is a high-performance current mode controller designed for half-bridge resonant converters in demanding offline power supply applications. By integrating a 700 V rated high-voltage start-up current source, X2-capacitor discharge function, and gate drivers, the device simplifies power supply design while reducing external component count and PCB complexity.
The controller also includes a dedicated interface output for power factor correction (PFC) stages, making it easy to coordinate operation between the PFC controller and the resonant stage. This capability, combined with the device’s quiet skip mode technique, helps designers achieve excellent no-load and light-load efficiency while maintaining stable system performance.
Designed for reliable operation in a wide range of environments, the NCP13994 integrates multiple protection mechanisms including overload protection, overcurrent protection to prevent hard switching cycles, brown-out detection, open optocoupler detection, automatic dead-time adjustment, overvoltage protection (OVP), and overtemperature protection (OTP). These built-in safeguards help ensure robust and safe operation across demanding power supply applications.
With high operating frequency capability up to 750 kHz and advanced control features, the NCP13994 provides an efficient and flexible solution for modern high-performance offline power designs.
