FTM / Motor Control / Maxim Integrated — TMC2300 Two-Phase Driver for Stepper Motors
The TMC2300 from TRINAMIC Motion Control, now part of Maxim Integrated, is a two-phase driver for stepper motors, producing silent operation powered by a battery as small as two AA cells, or one or two lithium-ion cells.
Drawing on unique chopper and control technologies to achieve very high efficiency, the TMC2300 provides precise motor control, with up to 51,200 microsteps-per-revolution. The driver IC is housed in a compact QFN package which has a footprint of 3mm x 3mm.
The TMC2300 drives two-phase stepper motors operating at up to 1.2Arms and across an operating-voltage range of 1.8V to 11V DC. Very low power consumption, the result of the sophisticated StealthChop2™ chopper technology and the on-chip power switches’ very low on-resistance, means that the TMC2300 is ideal for use in IoT and handheld devices.
Maxim also supplies the TMC6300, a motor driver IC for Brushless DC (BLDC) motors, and the TMC7300, a dual DC motor driver IC.
Board part number: TMC2300-IOT-REF
The TMC2300-IOT-REF is an open-source reference design for easy evaluation of the TMC2300-LA stepper motor driver IC running from a 3.5V-6V battery power supply.
The board includes the TMC2300 low-voltage stepper motor driver, a lithium-ion battery charger operating via a USB Type-C® connection, an ESP32-PICO-D4 processor with integrated Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Low Energy communications, as well as UART and USB Type-C interfaces for serial communication and programming.
