Infineon MOTIX BTN7030-1EPA Half-Bridge Driver IC

Integrated half-bridge saves space in low-power automotive brushed DC motors

Infineon has extended the choice of components for automotive motor-control systems with the MOTIX™ BTN7030-1EPA, a protected half-bridge consisting of a smart high-side and a smart low-side switch in a single chip.

Available at an attractive price point, the BTN7030-1EPA is ideal for DC motor applications which draw less than 15 A, such as door locks and fuel cap openers. A flexible and space-saving design option, the BTN7030-1EPA can be used to drive brushed DC motors either in half-bridge or H-bridge configurations. Compared to a half-bridge circuit based on discrete components, the BTN7030-1EPA reduces component count and occupies a smaller board footprint.

Part of the MOTIX™ Bridge family, the Novalithic™ Lite BTN7030-1EPA provides a simple interface with logic-level inputs to a host microcontroller such as the Infineon TLE9845QX, which has a LIN interface and integrated power switch.

The BTN7030-1EPA smart half-bridge also features:

Diagnosis function (high-side only) with very accurate current sensing
Dead-time generation
Protection against over-temperature, under-voltage, over-current, cross-current, and short circuits

Engineers can get a head start on the development of automotive motor designs by using an Infineon development kit, the DC-SHIELD_BTN7030, based on the BTN7030-1EPA half-bridge IC. This motor-control shield drives a DC motor when used in combination with an Arduino-compatible baseboard.

The shield can be controlled with the general logic I/O ports of an MCU. Either an Arduino Uno R3 or the XMC1100 Boot Kit from Infineon can be used as the master.
