FTM / Industrial Robotics & Industry 5.0 / Pulse Electronics — PulseChip Ethernet Transformers
The PulseChip® range of single-channel Ethernet transformers from Pulse Electronics features a novel design which offers dramatic savings in board space.
The PulseChip transformers benefit from the Pulse Electronics T-chip manufacturing technology, which automates the transformer manufacturing process and integrates the mechanical package and the ferrite core. This eliminates the need for a plastic housing, reducing the transformer’s size and weight compared to conventional toroidal-core transformers while also improving performance.
Measuring 4.7 mm x 3.4 mm, the PulseChip transformer occupies up to 40% less PCB area than toroidal transformers.
The PulseChip family of single-channel transformers with center taps exceeds the requirements of the IEEE 802.3 standard for Ethernet data rates, offering a choice of 1 Gbit/s, 2.5 Gbit/s, 5 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s devices. The transformers are available with an optional Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) capability, supplying a power output of up to 60 W.
The PulseChip design features a patented eight-pad wire termination which gives greater winding control. This results in improved electrical performance and higher reliability because of lower winding stress.
The devices support single twisted-pair Ethernet configurations, and are compatible with most physical layer (PHY) ICs.
