FTM / Intelligent Lighting / Nexperia — PMEGxxxTx Trench Schottky Rectifiers
Nexperia has extended its portfolio of trench Schottky rectifiers with devices rated at up to 100 V and 20 A. The new parts feature excellent switching behavior and thermal performance.
The new PMEGxxxTx rectifiers are supplied in Clip Bond FlatPower (CFP) packages, which have a much smaller footprint than the SMA, SMB, or SMC packages in which comparable Schottky rectifiers are commonly housed. Featuring a solid copper clip, the CFP package offers low thermal resistance and good heat transfer to the ambient environment, enabling designers to reduce the size of the board without increasing the risk of overheating.
The trench technology of these Nexperia devices contributes to the rectifiers’ favorable attributes, including low leakage current and low reverse-recovery charge. This means that Nexperia trench Schottky rectifiers support very fast switching in asynchronous switch-mode power converters, cutting both the switching losses of the rectifier and the losses that are induced in the MOSFET in the same commutation cell.
The PMEGxxxTx devices are also notable for their wide safe operating area (SOA), providing an ample safety margin and reducing the risk of thermal runaway. They are suitable for use in freewheeling applications, and for reverse polarity protection and ORing.
