Radial leaded transient voltage suppression and EMI filtering in a single package

May 15, 2025

The AMTS® varistors from KYOCERA AVX co-package transient voltage suppression with capacitors for EMI filtering in a single radial package, to reduce component count in automotive and industrial circuits.

The advanced motor transient suppressor (AMTS) varistors from KYOCERA AVX perform dual functions: a multilayer, zinc oxide transient voltage suppressor (TVS) combined with up to three EMI filtering multilayer ceramic capacitors in a three-lead encapsulated radial package.

The AMTS protection and filtering are ideal for suppressing the interference and RF noise generated by electric motors, while also providing transient voltage protection for sensitive electronics components. The combination of functions in a single package helps designers to save space in system designs.

The capacitors suppress high-frequency noise both on the line, and between the line and housing. The AMTS multilayer ceramic capacitors are made with temperature-stable X7R dielectric, providing for good capacitance stability over a wide temperature range.

The AMTS varistors with integrated capacitors are suitable for use in applications which implement inductive switching, and in load-dump circuits.
