Surface-mount fuse withstands very high currents

May 15, 2025

The SCHURTER UHP fuse ensures that circuits are safely tripped in the presence of high-energy over-currents. Rated current values between 50 A and 100 A provide for design flexibility in automotive, industrial and telecoms applications.

SCHURTER has introduced its UHP series of fuses to meet the need for surface-mount over-current protection in the fast-growing market for low-cost, high-performance lithium-ion battery cells.

The UHP fuses offer high breaking capacity of up to 3 kA and fast tripping in the event of over-currents. This makes the fuses compatible with li-ion batteries, which can release short-circuit currents of up to 3 kA, depending on the configuration of the cells. The UHP fuse is built so robustly that it can withstand such high currents at the safety extra low voltage (SELV) level of up to 63 V dc. Even at 80 V dc, the fuse can still provide breaking capacity of up to 2 kA.

The fuses are available with rated current of 50 A, 60 A, 70 A, 80 A, 90 A or 100 A. The UHP fuse disconnects the circuit at twice the rated current within a maximum of 15 seconds
