FTM / Security & Encryption / Monolithic Power Systems — MPM38x4C Power Modules
Monolithic Power Systems has launched the MPM38x4C series of synchronous, step-down power modules with integrated inductor, which enable designers of optical communications modules to meet the requirement for high power density, improved efficiency and space savings.
The MPM38x4C modules, which measure just 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm x 1.2 mm, can provide 1 A, 2 A, or 3 A of continuous output current and operate across an input-voltage range of 2.75 V to 6 V. The output voltage can be regulated to as low as 0.6 V.
The device, which works in forced continuous conduction mode, features low output-voltage ripple with one output capacitor. The small size and low ripple noise of the MPM38x4C modules makes them ideal for the power supplies to FPGAs, ASICs, and DSPs, as well as optical modules.
For high-speed optical modules, the advantages of the MPM38x4C are also that it offers greater efficiency when compared to discrete component solutions, and is easier to implement in a circuit, so can reduce time to market. The MPM3814C requires only four standard external components to complete the design: a feedback resistor, input capacitor and output capacitors.
The constant-on-time control scheme provides fast transient response, high efficiency, and easy loop stabilization. Full protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limiting, short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown.
