Very low jitter for PCIe applications from six-channel clock generator

October 1, 2026

Offering jitter below 30fs, the PI6CG33A06 from Diodes Incorporated is a six-output clock generator that provides 25MHz and 100MHz outputs for PCI Express® (PCIe) 7.0 architectures.

The PI6CG33A06 is a six-output low-jitter clock generator with on-chip termination to save up to 24 external resistors, for cutting PCB space and simplifying design. The generator supports PCIe 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0 and Intel CK440Q specifications.

Common-clock RMS jitter is less than 30fs on PCIe 7.0, and additive jitter is less than 67fs, reducing error rates when transmitting data and allowing larger timing margins for use cases such as sampling.

The PI6CG33A06 includes an 85Ω differential driver and uses a 25MHz crystal oscillator, or allows input from external oscillators such as crystal oscillators, temperature-compensated crystal oscillators, or oven-controlled crystal oscillators, allowing the generator to meet specific user requirements.

Equipped with System Management Bus (SMBus) programmable configurations with support for multiple addresses using a single selection pin, the generator is highly customizable, and engineers can also enable spread-spectrum clocking (SSC) on 100MHz outputs to limit electromagnetic interference (EMI).
