Hirose Electric has introduced the BM20 series of board-to-board and flexible printed circuit-to-board connectors which have a small footprint and ultra-low profile. One of the smallest series of connectors in its class, the BM20 products have a 0.4 mm pitch, a width of 2.3 mm, and lengths ranging from 4.48 mm to 14.48 mm depending on the number of contacts.
The connectors are available with ultra-low mated heights of either 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm. The 0.8 mm option includes a thin insulation layer on the bottom surface of the connector, which removes any restriction on PCB design under the connector.
A reliable connection is guaranteed by the two-point contacts. Dimples on the contacts provide a click and tactile feedback to confirm complete mating. The dimples of the header contacts also absorb shock, reducing the risk of damage.
Guide ribs in the housing body support smoother mating by allowing a self-alignment range of 0.3 mm in the x or y direction. At each corner of the connector, metal fittings increase the retention force of the connector to the board and protect the contacts from mechanical stress.
When mated, the contacts are enclosed, which protects them from flux as well as dust and other debris. In addition, a nickel barrier prevents solder wicking around the contacts.
