Safety capacitors suppress EMI in automotive circuits

The AY1 series of safety capacitors from Vishay provides robust performance in circuits exposed to high transient voltages, and withstands harsh environmental operating conditions in automotive applications.

The AY1 series from Vishay are automotive-grade X1/Y1 760 V/500 V ac-rated ceramic disc safety capacitors.  

 

The AY1 capacitors are for use as Y capacitors for EMI suppression and filtering, and for primary-secondary coupling in electric vehicle chargers. They may also be used as filtering capacitors in dc-dc converters in all types of electric and hybrid electric vehicles. 

 

These capacitors comply with the requirements of the IEC 60384-14 4th edition standard. The capacitors can pass a minimum of ten 10 kV positive and ten 10 kV negative pulses.  

 

The AY1 series safety capacitors are available in nine versions with capacitance values ranging from 470 pF to 4,700 pF. Body diameter ranges from 8.0 mm for 470 pF capacitance, up to 16.5 mm for 4,700 pF capacitance. 

 

The capacitor consists of a ceramic disc which is copper-plated on both sides. Connection leads are made of tinned copper-clad steel with a diameter of 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm.
