Automotive varistor provides up to 6 kV of protection from power surges

The compact SM10 metal oxide varistor from Littelfuse, supplied in a vertical surface-mount package, is ideal for the harsh environment of electric and other vehicles.

Littelfuse has introduced the SM10 varistor series, a metal oxide varistor (MOV) which provides high transient surge protection in automotive applications such as electric vehicles (EVs) and charging stations.

Housed in a surface-mount, polymer-molded package measuring 15.7 mm x 8.5 mm x 14 mm, the AEC-Q200 qualified SM10 can withstand temperatures up to 125°C.

The high surge protection capability is reflected in the repetitive surge rating: the varistor handles up to 40 pulses of 6 kV/3 kA surges, helping OEMs to extend useful product life and to improve system reliability.
