The MEAN WELL BIC-5K series is a bidirectional power supply designed to reduce wasted energy in applications involving repetitive charging and discharging, such as battery grading/forming, energy storage systems, and distributed grids.
The power supply not only draws energy from the ac grid during a charge cycle, but also converts dc energy back into the ac grid during a discharge cycle, achieving an efficiency of up to 93.5%, significantly reducing electricity costs and lowering cooling requirements.
To meet the complex charge-discharge profiles required for modern battery systems, The BIC-5K features an ultra-fast bidirectional switching time of 1ms. The power supply also maintains a total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 3% while handling up to 5kW of power, in both conversion modes.
The series includes models with dc output voltages of 24V, 48V, 95V and 380V to suit various battery bank configurations. For applications requiring higher power, the BIC-5K also supports active current sharing, allowing engineers to parallel up to five units plus one master for a total capacity of 30kW.
