FTM / Motion/Motor Control / Vishay — WSK1216 Current-Sense Resistors
Vishay Power Metal Strip® current-sense resistors such as the WSK1216 series offer substantial advantages over competing thick-film, thin-film and commercial-foil resistors. The WSK1216 series in a 1216 footprint offers particularly high power density of up to 417 W/in2.
Benefiting from an all-welded construction, the Power Metal Strip resistors are ideal for all types of current-sensing, voltage-division and pulse applications. Excellent sulfur resistance makes them suitable for use in high-sulfur atmospheres.
Compared to thick-film resistors, the Vishay Power Metal Strip resistors provide higher power ratings than thin-film types and are less affected by solder-joint stress. They are also not sensitive to ESD.
The four-terminal design of the WSK1216 resistors allows for ±1% tolerance at resistance values as low as 0.2 mΩ. A solid metal manganese-copper and manganese-copper-tin alloy resistive element has a low temperature coefficient of resistance of less than 20 ppm/°C.
The WSK1216 parts are available with resistance values of 1 mΩ , 0.5 mΩ, 0.3 mΩ, and 0.2 mΩ. Power ratings range from 3 W to 8 W.
Other Vishay Power Metal Strip resistors that offer high power density and low resistance values include the WSLF2512, which can replace two standard high-power 2512 resistors, and the WSHP2818, which provides a flexible range of resistance values and a high power capability.
