Efficient Sensorless Motor Control with Integrated MOSFETs and Advanced Protection
The MP6636 from Monolithic Power Systems is a compact three-phase, sensorless BLDC motor driver designed for applications that require efficient operation, smooth motion, and low acoustic noise. With integrated power MOSFETs and support for sensorless field-oriented control (FOC), the device enables precise motor management while maintaining a streamlined design footprint.
The driver supports an input voltage range of 3.3 V to 18 V and delivers up to 2 A of continuous operating current. Motor speed can be regulated using either a DC input or a PWM signal from 50 Hz to 50 kHz, offering flexibility for a wide variety of system architectures. The device also provides rotational speed monitoring through an open-drain FG output.
To maximize reliability, the MP6636 incorporates multiple built-in protection functions, including over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout, locked-rotor protection, phase-loss detection, over-current protection, and thermal shutdown. These features help ensure stable operation even under demanding conditions.
The MP6636 is offered in two space-saving package options, SOIC-8EP and TQFN-10 (4 mm x 4 mm), making it suitable for compact motor-control designs.
