More Information About Super Capacitors

What is a Super Capacitor?

Super capacitors, also known as ultracapacitors, electric double-layer capacitors, supercondensers, electrochemical double layer capacitors and pseudocapacitors, do not have a conventional dielectric. They instead have plates that are filled with two layers of an identical substance, which allows for separating the charge. Without the need for a dielectric, the plates of a supercapacitor are packed with a larger surface area, therefore resulting in high capacitance. A supercapacitor contains a positive cathode which uses activated carbon material. Charges are stored in an electric double layer. Development of the layer happens at the interface between the electrolyte and the carbon.

Types of Super Capacitors

There are many different kinds of super capacitors. At Future Electronics we stock many of the most common types categorized by rated voltage, type, capacitance, packaging type and case size / dimension. The parametric filters on our website can help refine your search results depending on the required specifications.
The most common values for capacitance are 0.22 F, 0.47 F and 1 F. We also carry super capacitors with capacitance up to 400 F. The rated voltage can be between 2.3 V and 11 V, with the most common capacitors having a rated voltage of 5.5 V.

Super Capacitors from Future Electronics

Future Electronics has a full super capacitor selection from several manufacturers that can be used for a supercapacitor battery or for any other supercap applications. Simply choose from the super capacitor technical attributes below and your search results will quickly be narrowed in order to match your specific super capacitor application needs.

Applications for Super Capacitors:

Combining a battery with a supercapacitor creates an electric vehicle battery which is long lasting, more powerful and less expensive than other technologies. The rechargeable electricity energy system in hybrid and electric vehicles uses supercapacitors as its storage system. Supercapacitors are also used in self-powered equipment that can be powered by humans.

Choosing the Right Super Capacitor:

When you are looking for the right super capacitors, with the FutureElectronics.com parametric search, you can filter the results by various attributes: by Type (Flat Pack, Horizontal, Radial, Vertical), Capacitance (0.015F, 0.22 F, 0.47 F, 1 F, …) and Rated Voltage (from 2.3 V to 11 V) to name a few. You will be able to find the right supercapacitor for a battery or for any other applications that might require a supercap.

Super Capacitors in Production Ready Packaging or R&D Quantities

If the quantity of super capacitors that you require is less than a full reel, we offer customers many of our super capacitor products in tube, tray or individual quantities that will help you avoid unneeded surplus.
In addition, Future Electronics offers clients a unique bonded inventory program that is designed to eliminate potential problems that could arise from an unpredictable supply of products containing raw metals and products with long or erratic lead times.
