Renesas — RZ/G3E General-Purpose Microprocessor (MPU)
With Quad-Core CPU, and NPU for HMI Applications with High-Performance Computing
The RZ/G3E is a versatile MPU designed for mid-range Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications, offering robust edge computing capabilities and high-speed 5G connectivity.
It features a powerful quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 processor running at 1.8 GHz, ideal for handling both HMI and edge workloads. A dedicated Cortex-M33 core supports the integrated AI accelerator (NPU: Ethos-U55), enabling efficient on-device AI processing.
For advanced HMI functionality, the RZ/G3E includes a graphics engine (GPU), a video codec, and support for multi-screen output. The built-in video codec supports both H.264 and H.265 encoding and decoding. Notably, it is the first in the RZ/G series to support H.265 encoding, enabling high-quality, high-compression video transmission and storage.
High-speed interfaces such as PCIe Gen3 and USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps class) ensure fast data transfer, making the RZ/G3E ideal for cloud communication and high-speed storage—key requirements for edge computing.
The Ethos-U55 NPU is also featured in the Renesas RA8P1 MCU, allowing developers to scale AI models seamlessly across MCU and MPU platforms using a unified development environment. This flexibility supports consistent AI deployment across entry-level, mid-range, and high-end products within a product line.
