About Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillators (TCXOs)

A Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) is an electronic device that generates clock signals with improved frequency stability across temperature variations. Unlike standard crystal oscillators or Voltage-Controlled Crystal Oscillators (VCXOs), TCXOs incorporate a programmable ASIC or thermistor network. This circuitry adjusts the voltage on a varactor to compensate for the nominal crystal’s frequency vs. temperature curve.

The result is a low-power oscillator with significantly better frequency vs. temperature performance12. TCXOs find applications where precise timing and synchronization are crucial, especially in environments with varying temperatures.
