Renesas RA6M4 32-Bit Microcontroller (MCU) Family
New Arm® Cortex®-M33-based MCUs support advanced security features for use in IoT applications
Renesas has introduced the RA6M4 Group of microcontrollers, which feature Renesas’ advanced SCE9 cryptography engine for superior security functionality. The MCUs support the Arm® TrustZone® technology for executing security sensitive-applications and functions in a secure hardware partition.
The RA6M4 32-bit MCUs achieve high application performance in intelligent IoT edge and endpoint devices thanks to their Arm Cortex®-M33 core operating at up to 200MHz. Implementation of security and connectivity capabilities on the MCUs is supported by Renesas’ easy-to-use Flexible Software Package (FSP).
The FSP includes the FreeRTOS Operating System (OS) and middleware, offering a ready-made device-to-cloud option for developers. These out-of-the-box options can be easily replaced and expanded with any other real-time OS or middleware. In addition, the Renesas partner ecosystem offers software and hardware building blocks that work out-of-the-box with RA6M4 MCUs and the FSP.
Renesas’ enhanced Secure Crypto Engine delivers excellent security capabilities: it incorporates multiple symmetric and asymmetric cryptography accelerators, and provides advanced key management, security lifecycle management, tamper detection, and increased resistance to side-channel attack. By offering these integrated security features, the RA6M4 MCUs enable customers to achieve lower bill-of-materials cost and to provide Secure Element functionality in IoT designs.
Built on a highly efficient 40nm process, the RA6M4 MCUs draw current as low as 99µA/MHz. The MCUs also support a fast wake-up time of 30µs from stand-by using a high-performance on-chip oscillator.
