High-performance passive infrared motion sensing for smarter, more efficient systems
Panasonic Industry introduces the PaPIRs+ Passive Infrared Motion Sensors, a new generation of motion sensing technology designed to deliver higher sensitivity, simpler integration, and improved power efficiency across lighting, HVAC, security, smart appliances, and IoT applications.
Building on Panasonic Industry’s established PaPIR and EKMC/EKMB PIR sensor platforms, the PaPIRs+ series introduces significant performance enhancements for next-generation motion detection, supporting more accurate and reliable sensing in both battery-powered and energy-harvesting designs.
The PaPIRs+ Sensors deliver up to 2x sensitivity compared to conventional PIR solutions through an enlarged, black-coated pyroelectric element. This enables reliable detection of subtle motion at distances of up to 17 meters, even in environments with minimal temperature variation as low as 2°C.
Designed for ultra-low power operation, EKMB variants support standby currents as low as 1 µA, 2 µA, and 6 µA for battery-powered systems, while EKMC variants operate at approximately 170 µA for battery-free applications. This flexibility allows designers to optimize for energy efficiency without compromising performance.
Integration is simplified by combining the lens, pyroelectric sensor, and proprietary ASIC into a single compact package. The ASIC enhances signal stability and noise immunity, which reduces false triggers and improves system reliability in dynamic environments.
A broad lens portfolio with more than 10 configurations including Flat Wide, Long Distance, and Ultra Wide & Long Distance supports black, white, and pearl white housing options. This enables scalable design flexibility across a wide range of applications, from standard occupancy detection to ultra-fine motion sensing in compact systems.
