Renesas RA8D2 Graphics-Enabled Microcontrollers

Ultra-high performance MCUs for advanced graphics, HMI, and vision AI applications

The Renesas RA8D2 group of microcontrollers (MCUs) comprises high-performance 32-bit graphics-enabled microcontrollers designed for demanding HMI, vision, and AI workloads. Featuring single or dual-core architectures with a 1GHz Arm Cortex-M85 core with Helium Vector Extensions and a 250MHz Cortex-M33 core, the RA8D2 MCUs deliver more than 7300 CoreMark performance while maintaining excellent power efficiency.

Built on an advanced 22nm ULL TSMC process, the RA8D2 MCUs combine high processing capability with reduced active current consumption. Large on-chip memory, high-throughput external memory interfaces, and a comprehensive graphics subsystem enable high-resolution TFT-LCD displays up to WXGA and support camera-based vision applications.

The RA8D2 family integrates a rich set of graphics and imaging peripherals including a high-resolution LCD controller with parallel RGB and MIPI DSI interfaces, a 2D drawing engine, 16-bit parallel camera interface, and MIPI CSI-2 camera support. These capabilities make the devices well suited for sophisticated HMI designs, machine vision, and intelligent edge systems.

Security is built in at the hardware level with Renesas Security IP, secure boot, immutable storage for the first-stage bootloader, TrustZone support, and tamper protection. This secure element-like functionality enables robust protection for consumer, industrial, and IoT applications.

The RA8D2 MCUs are available in 224, 289, and 303-pin BGA packages and are fully supported by the Renesas Flexible Software Package along with a complete set of hardware and software development tools.
