Maxim Integrated

Overview

The MAXREFDES101# is a unique evaluation and development platform in a wrist-worn wearable form factor that demonstrates the functions of a wide range of Maxim’s products for health-sensing applications. This second-generation health sensor platform (a follow-on to the MAXREFDES100#) integrates a PPG analog-front-end (AFE) sensor (MAX86141), a biopotential AFE (MAX30001), a human body temperature sensor (MAX30205), a microcontroller (MAX32630), a power-management IC (MAX20303), and a 6-axis accelerometer/gyroscope. The complete platform includes a watch enclosure and a biometric sensor hub with an embedded heart-rate algorithm (MAX32664). Algorithm output and raw data can be streamed through Bluetooth® to an Android® app or PC GUI for demonstration, evaluation, and customized development.

Introduction

The MAXREFDES101# is the second generation in our family of health sensor development platforms. Like the previous generation, MAXREFDES100#, the MAXREFDES101# enables quick evaluation of our portfolio of wearable products to significantly shorten the development time for custom fitness, health, and clinical applications.

The MAXREFDES101# platform includes the following key components

  • Micro board, which includes the MAX32630 microcontroller, MAX20303 power management IC (PMIC), dual mode Bluetooth, and 6-axis accelerometer and gyroscope
  • Sensor board, which includes the MAX86141 AFE, optical heart-rate sensor with two green LEDs and a photodiode, MAX30001 ECG sensor, MAX30205 body temperature sensor, and MAX32664 biometric sensor hub with an embedded heart-rate algorithm
  • Pico adaptor board for use during a firmware upgrade for the micro board only
  • Watch enclosure
  • Hardware design files, firmware, and software
