Melexis features the MLX90416, a versatile No-Hall sensorless 1-coil BLDC motor driver IC designed for 12 V and 24 V motor applications. Ideal for replacing legacy sensorless 3-phase motors, the MLX90416 integrates two low RDSon half-bridges and supports up to 8 A braking current with a programmable current limit reaching 4 A—often without the need for an external TVS.
This compact driver operates via PWM control and offers programmable FG output for speed feedback. With up to eight speed curve configuration points and support for speeds up to 40k mRPM (for 2 pole-pair motors), it enables precise and efficient motor control. The embedded non-volatile memory is I2C-programmable and can be updated multiple times.
The MLX90416 includes robust safety features such as Locked Rotor Protection, Under Voltage Protection with hot unplug handling, Thermal Shutdown, and Overcurrent Protection. Its code-free, plug-and-play operation eliminates the need for complex MCU-based software validation, accelerating development timelines and time-to-market.
To support evaluation and development, Melexis offers the FandriverEVB2 for device control and programming, along with the FandriverProgrammerB for mass programming. A built-in motor parameter extraction tool within the GUI further simplifies system validation.
