Renesas RA4M3 Series Microcontrollers (MCUs)
New MCUs balance performance and power consumption for IoT and industrial applications
Renesas has introduced the RA4M3 group of microcontrollers which balance high performance with low power consumption. They also add new flexible memory options which until now were only available with MCUs at the top end of the Renesas RA family.
The RA4M3 devices operate at up to 100MHz using the Arm® Cortex®-M33 core. These MCUs draw an operating current of just 99μA/MHz in Active mode and 1.6mA in Standby, with a wake-up time of 30µs.
These low-power and high-performance features of the RA4M3, when combined with its security features and memory options, make it well suited to use in secure, low-power IoT edge devices for security, metering, industrial and HVAC applications.
The RA4M3 offers up to 1Mbyte of Flash memory, and 128kbytes of SRAM with parity check/ECC. This high embedded SRAM provision makes the RA4M3 MCUs ideal for safety-critical applications. Designers can use the Quad-SPI and SD card interfaces to increase memory capacity if needed.
Renesas RA4M3 MCUs combine Arm TrustZone technology with Renesas’ Secure Crypto Engine. This incorporates multiple symmetric and asymmetric cryptography accelerators, advanced key management, security lifecycle management, power analysis resistance and tamper detection. The RA4M3 MCUs also feature integrated capacitive touch sensing as well as analog and communication peripherals.
