Infineon’s XENSIV™ DPS368 is a miniature digital barometric air pressure sensor capable of precisely measuring pressure and temperature.
Its pressure measurements are so precise that it can register changes in altitude as small as 2cm. The high sensitivity of the DPS368 also means that it can be used to measure air flow in products such as medical inhalers and tumble dryers, altitude in drones and water levels in washing machines.
This waterproof, IPx8-rated sensor is housed in a small but robust package: just 2.0mm x 2.5mm x 1.1mm, it occupies up to 80% less space than other waterproof sensors. This small package can withstand immersion in water at a depth of 50m for one hour, and protects the sensing cells from contamination by dust or humidity. The robust package also facilitates handling in the production line.
The sensor can take measurement samples at a rate of up to 200Hz, and its high output data rate ensures a fast response in the host application. Typical measurement time is 27.6ms in standard mode.

Based on Infineon’s AC biasing capacitive sensing technology, the DPS368 uses half as much power as competitors’ products when running at full speed. This results in longer run-time between charges in battery-powered applications such as smart watches and wearable patient-monitoring devices.
Infineon supports developers working with the DPS368 by providing generic software drivers, the SES2G Sensor Evaluation Software, and its own pressure sensor Android™ app for step counting, pressure sensing, door opening alarms and altitude metering. The app is available for download from the Google Play™ store.
