A switch is used to connect and disconnect electric circuits at will. Switches cover a wide range of types, from subminiature up to industrial plant switching megawatts of power on high voltage supply and distribution lines.
In applications where multiple switching options are required, mechanical switches have long been replaced by electronic switching devices which can be automated and intelligently controlled.
A switch can also be referred to as a "gate". In the philosophy of logic, operational arguments are represented as logic gates. The use of electronic gates to function as a system of logical gates is the fundamental basis for the computer.
The MIC2583R are single channel positive voltage hot swap controllers designed to allow the safe insertion of boards into live system backplanes. Using few external components, the parts act in conjunction with an external N-Channel MOSFET device, for which the gate drive is controlled to provide inrush current-limiting and output voltage slew rate control.
The MIC2583R are rated for operation from supply voltages from 2.3V to 13.2V, but can withstand transient voltages as high as 20V without damage. Overcurrent fault protection is provided along with a programmable overcurrent threshold. Active current regulation during start-up ensures that inrush current never exceeds the programmed threshold.
The MIC2583R provide a circuit breaker function that latches the output MOSFET off if the current limit threshold is exceeded for a programmed period of time. Dual-level fault detection allows very fast response to short circuit faults while preventing lower level overcurrent transients from causing “nuisance tripping” of the circuit breaker.
Additionally, the MIC2583 provide a /FAULT signal indicating overcurrent or undervoltage fault conditions and offers an Auto-Retry function.
The MIC2583-MYQS TR is a single channel hot swap controller with disabled curcuit breaker threshold that comes in a 16-Pin QSOP package.
