The Power Integrations LNK3207 is an AC-DC converter IC that enables higher power appliance and industrial designs by increasing the available current by 60% while also delivering efficiency of over 80% and no-load consumption of less than 30 mW.
Part of the LinkSwitch-TN2 family, the LNK3207 incorporates a 725 V power MOSFET; oscillator; On/Off control for highest efficiency at light load; a high-voltage switched current source for self-biasing, frequency jittering; fast (cycle-by-cycle) current limit, hysteretic thermal shutdown; and output and input overvoltage protection circuitry. Output current increases from 360 mA to 575 mA.
The LinkSwitch-TN2 family targets appliances (e.g., washers, dryers and coffee makers) and industrial applications (e.g., metering and IoT installations) with sensors that requiring low power operation, such as security cameras and smart thermostats. The LNK3207 IC is available in through-hole and surface-mount packages, increasing design flexibility.
Because LinkSwitch-TN2 ICs provide very high levels of integration, a simple, high-current buck converter can be realized using a minimum number of components, saving at least one diode compared with competing solutions. The devices are pin-to-pin compatible with previous LinkSwitch-TN2 parts, so customers can easily upgrade to higher power designs.
