Description of Change:Grayhill is implementing a controlled substitution within specific magnet assemblies used in our products. This substitution involves the replacement of select rare earth elements with Holmium (Ho). The current Grayhill magnet used in these series allows for the use of any of the following rare earth elements: Dy, Tb, Gd, or Ho. Due to export restrictions on Dy, Tb, and Gd, Grayhill will now be utilizing a magnet that exclusively uses Ho and ensures no traces of the other elements. For the 35SH grade of magnet utilized by Grayhill, this element accounts for only 1-3% of the magnet’s material. The change will have no effect on the fit, form, or function of the part and has been qualified based on the included qualification test report.Reason for ChangeThe change described above is in response to ongoing supply chain constraints and market volatility surrounding certain rare earth elements (REEs).Effective DateThe conversion to the new magnet will be a rolling change beginning September 15, 2025.
Description of ChangeGrayhill is changing the sensing technology used in the high-resolution series of encoders from the current optical technology to Hall-effect technology. This includes encoders in the 61K, 61R, 63K, and 63R series.Reason for ChangeThe updated Hall-effect design will improve the quality of the encoders in several ways. While foreign contamination inside the encoder with the current optical sensing technology can result in code output failures, the Hall-effect technology is more robust in regards to contamination. Additionally, the Hall-effect technology performs more consistently at higher rotational speeds. The new design also allows for the elimination of piece parts that have become a supply constraint, improving on-time delivery of encoders.
