Features & Applications
Diodes Incorporated is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality, application-specific standard products within the broad discrete and analog semiconductor markets, serving the consumer electronics, computing, communications, industrial and automotive markets. A rectifier is an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). This process is known as rectification. Rectifiers have a range of uses such as components of power supplies as well as detectors of radio signals. Rectifiers may be made of solid state diodes, vacuum tube diodes, mercury arc valves, and other components. Schottky rectifiers have been used for over 25 years in the power supply industry. The main advantages are exceptionally low forward voltage drop and switching speeds that come close to zero time making them ideal for output stages of switching power supplies. This latter characteristic has also stimulated their further use in very high frequency applications including very low power involving signal and switching diode requirements of less than 100 picoseconds. These require small Schottky devices with low capacitance. Super Barrier Rectifier (SBR) is a technology that creates a super barrier for majority carriers without unreliable metal-semiconductor Schottky contact. SBR technology creates such barrier in the MOS channel.
